Volunteer to read to children at schools and at afterschool programs.  Call the Volunteer Center of Racine County, 262-886-9612.  Opportunities include:

January, One Book/One School

March, Read Across America / Dr. Seuss read-a-thon

For RUSD Schools, volunteers must apply through the Wings program, 262-631-7020.

Private/Parochial Schools: call individual schools.

Afterschool RUSD programs, volunteers must apply through the Wings program, 262-631-7020; then call Kathy Dunkerson at the Lighted Schoolhouse, 262-664-6990

Community Centers, call Tom Molbeck at Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, 262-636-9425

 

Volunteer with one of the partner organizations:

Racine Public Library’s Battle of the Books program in March; volunteers are needed to be timekeepers and scorekeepers. Register through the Volunteer Center of Racine County, 262-886-9612, and then contact Anne Callaghan @ 262-636-9245

Cops N Kids, 262-632-1606 to donate books

Racine Literacy Council, 262-632-9495 to volunteer as a tutor

Girls Inc of Racine; adult volunteers are needed to mentor elementary and
middle school girls and/or to assist in facilitating afterschool literacy
and STEM programs.

High school girls can apply to be a She Volunteer to serve as a mentor or as
an assistant of various events, workshops and programs. To apply contact
